We Have No Purpose

Teenagers are afraid of the future, of the question “what are you going to do with your life?” While we are afraid of what we will do, we are most afraid of what we won’t: we are afraid to waste our lives. In a culture that has told us we have no purpose except the one we assign to ourselves, (follow your dreams, do what you love, be successful!) some of us ask the question

“Is that enough?”

Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted WorldMy rating: 5 of 5 stars

We realize there is at least some sort of problem with the chains of distraction in our modern world. We have struggled with it at some level in our own lives. And we have desired to stop, whether we commit to that desire or not. Continue reading

Insane House for Sale

“Lift with your knees, not with your back.” Awww, that’s rubbish, I thought, as the familiar piece of advice drifted into my mind as I prepared to lift a heavy box. I pushed my fingers under it and lifted it into the air. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t rubbish after all. If you have ever moved, (and I assume you have) you know the feeling… and the desire to be really lazy and just get this junk out of here! I would like to announce: we have finally moved! Sticky Post: Consistency

We hate inconsistency. We hate undependable action, or lack there of. We look to others to provide this glorified virtue but we can forget ourselves. This is a common fault, and we, at least I, am no foreigner to it.

For months I have been busy, which has made it impossible to depend upon my writings. My problem has been that I have only been focused on me and my time and I forget those depending on me. So today, I want to update you on how this blog will continue, so you can decide if I am worth your time. Continue reading

A Fallen America

I don’t know about you, but I always feel hypocritical around Independence Day. On the one hand, I have spent six months discussing, or rather professing, America’s flaws; it’s politicians and leaders, illogical and unjust laws, and the domestic and foreign issues plaguing, if not our everyday lives, our news medias. On the other hand, Independence Day brings back the passed down memories of the War for Independence, the historical founding documents that sculpted the country that began on the ideal of freedom, and the price that was paid for that freedom. A country boasting a constitution unparalleled throughout the waves of history. And God has given us the privilege to here. Continue reading

Happy Jane Austen Day!

Dear Friends,
Happy Jane Austen Day! On this day in the year 1775 one of the greatest calssic writers of all time was born. In contrast with her literary genius and eloquent word-playing her life is not so exciting. She was mostly homeschooled and self educated by reading. Her father : possessed over 500 titles until he passed away. Jane never did marry and resented the fact that, in a family without a father, marriage of the children was the only way to support the widow and any children who had not married. She was engaged once, only to reject the proposal the next day.

Trying Something New

FullSizeRender (3).jpg

Imagine you have a hammer, you love your hammer, it’s beautiful and new, and it can do so much. Building and creating; benefiting you, you bring it with your everywhere. You take your hammer to work, constantly admiring it, and enjoying everything it can do. But then things take a turn when you leave work, instead of focusing on driving, you are admiring the glossy coating on your hammer; instead of greeting your family you stare intently at your hammer; you pay close attention to it, but not to your loved ones; instead of being content with the little jobs and tasks at home you can’t wait until you can get back to your hammer. Time that could be spent investing in what you enjoy is taken over by intent, one-on-one time with your hammer.

And you are looking at me, puzzled and very confused, how this has anything to do with you? Continue reading
